Rental car

About 40–45 min in good conditions

When UDOT switches on the canyon traction rule (flashing lights at the canyon mouth, sometimes a day before a storm), cars need AWD or 4WD with M+S or snowflake-rated tires and at least 5/32″ of tread, or chains. Police turn non-compliant cars around and can now write tickets. What to book at the rental counter. Alta needs a parking reservation on weekends and holidays from Dec 11.

$52 adult, $42 child, each way (Alta Shuttle / Canyon Express listed price)

Best without a car

Private transfer

From $239 each way for 1–4 people (Alta Shuttle)

Door to door. Alta also lists Alpine Transportation, Quicksilver, Ted’s, Tri M and Wave. Confirm the company can run when the traction rule is on.

Groups

$2.50 TRAX plus $5 bus (bus free with Ikon, Alta, Snowbird or Super Pass)

TRAX Green Line from the terminal, transfer to a southbound line toward Midvale or Sandy, then UTA 994, CS1 or CS2 up the canyon. Ski buses start Dec 6. Use the UTA trip planner for transfers; plan on well over an hour.
